Data Deduplication and Read Ahead Cache

January 18th, 2009

This has been discussed quite a lot, but I thought I’d throw in my 2 cents. A lot of people are still new to de-duplication and what it does, and a lot of people are still very nervous of using it in production. I’m still hesitant, I’m waiting for “2.0” in the dedupe world, as ever I’m rarely at the bleeding edge with technology as it scares me too much and I’ve seen too many people lose large amounts of data by going bleeding edge.

SSD Storage Arrays

January 18th, 2009

This seems to be quite a buzz word at the moment. RAMSAN have been doing very expensive, very high performance RAM based SAN (hence the name oddly enough) for awhile, as have a few other vendors. EMC recently announced a SSD based disk shelf, and lots of other vendors have been talking about it. So where does it fit?

My opinions here, we get it to fit in 2 places that compliment some of the other buzz words at the moment.
